At LAX, the curb changed years ago, but chauffeured pickup did not. Rideshare vehicles were pushed off the terminal frontage under the LAX-it program, sent out to a remote lot with a shuttle ride tacked on. A prearranged car was never part of that move: we still queue on the arrivals-level curb outside baggage claim, and on the departure side we drop you directly at your terminal door, the same access limousines and town cars have kept all along.
The road side of the trip is straightforward until it isn't. I-405 splits off I-5 at Irvine and is the better line into LAX specifically because it skips the downtown Los Angeles interchange that I-5 drives straight through. On a clear morning or a late-night run, the whole trip holds close to two and a half hours. Hit either weekday rush window, and that same drive can run past three.

What Affects the Timing
Three things decide whether this run takes two and a half hours or closer to four. The first is timing: leave inside the weekday 7-10am or 4-7pm windows, and the drive can run 30 to 60 minutes or more over the light-traffic figure. The second is your driver's choice of interchange. At Irvine, I-405 splits off I-5, and we take it, because it skips the downtown Los Angeles interchange that I-5 runs straight through. The third only shows up at the very end: LAX's arrivals-level curb, where chauffeured vehicles still queue even though rideshare was pushed off it years ago.
The San Diego side has its own rush before you ever reach Orange County. The I-5 corridor from downtown up toward La Jolla typically runs heavy from about 6:30 to 8:30am and 3 to 7pm, and that window can stretch later on a big downtown event night.

Departing from LAX, we drop you curbside directly at your terminal - the LAX-it program moved rideshare off that curb to a remote lot years ago, but prearranged limousines and town cars were left exactly where they were.

A transfer this length is quoted as a flat route rate, not by the hour. Point-to-point pricing fits a trip with a defined start and a defined end; hourly pricing is for days that don't have one.
One-way and round-trip are priced separately, since a one-way San Diego to LAX run leaves us driving back with an empty car, and that return leg is built into the route rate rather than billed as a separate hour block.
Wait time at the LAX end depends on direction: pick you up after a delayed flight and some wait is already built into the quote; drop you at your terminal and there's no wait to price at all.
